1884

Birth of a legend

Karl Elsener I opens a cutler’s workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. His mother Victoria actively supports him in his endeavors.

1891

Swiss Army Knives

Karl Elsener I establishes the Association of Swiss Master Cutlers. As a result, he is able to deliver the first major supply of soldier’s knives to the Swiss Army.

1893

Wenger SA, led by Theo Wenger

Founded in Delemont Switzerland, Wenger received the contract to produce the Swiss Army's Model 1890 knife as the second industrial cutlery manufacturer of Switzerland.

1909

In Memoriam

Upon her death, Elsner named his company "Victoria" in his mother’s honor and registers the cross and shield as a trademark. Later renamed "Victorinox" a blend of "Victoria" and "inox" (an abbreviation of stainless steel in French).

1940's

Coming to America

US servicemen in Europe after WWII bring home Swiss Army knives as a popular souvenir. The term "Swiss Army Knife" was coined by American soldiers due to their difficulty saying "Offiziersmesser", (German for officer’s knife).

1970

Wenger Branding

Wenger updates their trademark cross logo.

1978

Space Travel

NASA orders Swiss Army Knives to be issued to astronauts aboard SkyLab and for subsequent Space Shuttle missions.

1988

Watches Introduced

Wenger launches its first collection of watches, providing one of the most affordable “Swiss Made” timepieces on the market.

2003

Travel Products Launched

Wenger enters the luggage and backpack categories with products emphasizing Swiss values at a reasonable price.

2005

Victorinox
acquires Wenger

Acquisition of the long-standing Genuine Swiss Army Knife manufacturer, Wenger SA, which grows the family of brands to Victorinox, and Wenger.

2013

Wenger Red

Wenger and Victorinox announce that the separate knife brands would be merged into one brand: Victorinox. The “Wenger Red” is the only remaining knife bearing the Wenger brand name.

2020

New Branding

Victorinox updates Wenger branding.
